Course Overview: The Advanced First Aid Course (Earlier Occupational First Aid Level 3) is a 70-hour program designed to provide advanced life-saving first aid skills for remote worksites or employers with large workforces that are located more than 20 minutes away from medical aid or a hospital. The course is a combination of practical and theoretical lessons, and successful participants will receive the WorkSafe BC Advanced First Aid Certificate (formerly Occupational First Aid Level 3). The course includes both written and practical examinations, with a grade of 70% or higher required on each segment for certification.
Course Location: 7311 Vantage Wy #106, Delta, BC V4G 1C9
Course Duration:
- Full-time: 70 hours (2 weeks, 10 days, 7 hours per day)
- Part-time: 70 hours (spread over 20 days)
- The course is scheduled from Monday to Friday, with two 15-minute coffee breaks and a 30-minute lunch break each day.
Prerequisites:
- Standard First Aid with CPR Level C certification is required prior to taking this course.
- Statement of Fitness form must be submitted.
Certification Requirements:
- Pass the written exam with at least 70%.
- Complete a practical scenario successfully.
- Complete 100% of the course in order to be certified.
- Initial certification is valid for 3 years.
Course Content:
- Patient Assessments and handling of critical situations
- Airway management and respiratory emergencies
- Circulatory emergencies, shock, and hemorrhage
- Musculoskeletal injuries, chest, abdominal, and pelvic injuries
- Head, spinal, and soft tissue trauma
- Special populations (e.g., pregnancy, labor, delivery)
- Crisis intervention and extrication of patients
- Environmental illnesses and poisoning
- Marine and workplace-specific emergency responses
Examination Details:
- 4 quizzes during the course
- A final exam with 113 questions
- The exam will be administered shortly after the last day of class.
- A passing grade of 70% or higher is required in each exam section (written and practical).
Course Fees:
- $850 plus 5% GST per student.
Recertification:
- 40 hours (5 days) of recertification is required after 3 years, but there are no renewal classes available. Candidates must retake the full course.
Additional Information:
- Parking is available at our Delta location, behind and around the sides of the building.
- The course is conducted in English.
- Advanced First Aid certification is only valid within British Columbia.
