EMR Bridge Course Overview

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Bridge Course is a condensed certification path designed for participants who already meet the required prerequisites and are ready to focus on the in-person skills training component.

Instead of taking the full 100-hour EMR course, eligible students join the second week of the program and complete 40 hours of intensive, hands-on training over 5 days, following successful completion of the either Advanced First Aid or First Responder courses

  • Scope of Practice Schedules 1 & 2: Registered separately 2 Additional days - Refer to Scope of update course schedule click here

    • 8 hours self-directed online component

    • 16 hours in-person teaching time

  • Total: 56 hours of classroom instruction (not including breaks)

Who Should Take the EMR Bridge Course?

This course is ideal for individuals who:

  • Are upgrading from a related certification (e.g., Advanced First aid(Occupational First Aid Level 3) or First Responder courses.


Prerequisites:

  • Advanced First Aid(OFA3) or First Responder

  • Completion of EMR Workbook (provided after registration)

  • Grade 10 English (recommended)


Certification Requirements:

To successfully complete the EMR Bridge Course and receive your certification, you must:

  • Attend and participate in 100% of the in-class sessions

  • Demonstrate all practical skills to standard

  • Achieve 75% or higher on the written exam

  • Pass two evaluated scenarios (one trauma, one medical)


Certification Received:

  • 3-year EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) certification

  • Digital certificate issued upon successful completion

  • Recertification: 40 hours required to maintain certification

  • For those pursuing licensing through BC Emergency Health Services, Schedule 1 & 2 scope updates are included as needed.
