Course Overview: First Responder (FR) + Recertification + BC Scope

This comprehensive course is designed for new participants seeking First Responder (FR) certification as well as current FRs needing recertification.

It also includes the BC EMALB Scope of Practice Schedule 1 & 2 update, which is required for licensing or employment with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and most fire departments in British Columbia.

Delivered fully in-person at our Delta training location, this class provides both initial certification and recertification options in one cohesive format.

Who Should Take This Course?

This course is ideal for:

  • Individuals entering a career in Fire Services, Search & Rescue, Remote Industry, or First Response

  • Current First Responders requiring recertification

  • Anyone seeking to meet BC EMALB licensing requirements

  • Volunteers or community safety personnel looking to upgrade from Standard First Aid or OFA 3


Prerequisites:

  • For new participants: Standard First Aid with CPR C (recommended)

  • For recertification: Proof of valid or recently expired First Responder certification

  • Grade 10 English (recommended)


Course Format & Completion Requirements:

🧠 In-Person Training Only (Delta classroom)
📆 Multi-day course (Length varies slightly for new vs. recertifying participants)

To successfully complete the course, students must:

  • Attend 100% of scheduled hours

  • Demonstrate all required practical skills to standard

  • Achieve a minimum 75% on written exam

  • Pass two evaluated scenarios (1 trauma, 1 medical)


Certification Awarded:

  • 3-Year First Responder (FR) Certification

  • BC EMALB Scope of Practice Schedule 1 & 2 Completion

  • Digital certificate issued upon completion

  • 🔁 Recertification required every 3 years
