The WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid(Previously OFA2) course is a 16-hour training program designed for urban first aid attendants who require a higher level of emergency response skills. This course equips participants with essential life-saving techniques, patient assessment skills, and trauma management strategies.

Training Location:

Minimum Participants:

A minimum of 4 participants is required to request onsite training.

Duration:

  • 16 hours of in-person instruction (2 days)

Course Overview:

This comprehensive program is ideal for individuals working in urban environments who may need to provide first aid in industrial, commercial, or workplace settings. Participants will learn basic life support techniques, patient assessment skills, and critical interventions for airway, breathing, and circulatory emergencies.

Completion Requirements:

To successfully complete the course, participants must:
Attend the full course and actively participate in all sessions
Demonstrate practical competency in all required first aid skills
✔ Achieve a minimum passing grade of 70% on a multiple-choice exam

Certification:

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certification, valid for 3 years.

Course Content:

Participants will gain hands-on experience in first aid response and trauma management, covering:

Basic Life Support (CPR-A)

  • Life-saving techniques for cardiac and respiratory emergencies

Scene & Patient Assessment

  • Safe scene management and hazard identification
  • Systematic patient evaluation to determine the severity of injuries

Critical Airway, Breathing & Circulatory Interventions

  • Airway obstruction management and breathing support
  • C-Spine management to protect spinal cord integrity

Soft Tissue, Wound & Fracture Management

  • Proper treatment for cuts, bruises, and burns
  • Fracture stabilization and immobilization techniques

Prerequisites:

🚫 No prerequisites required! You do not need to complete Basic First Aid before enrolling in this course.

This course ensures participants are well-prepared to respond to workplace medical emergencies while meeting WorkSafeBC compliance standards.
